Event description and details
How has the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ been portrayed in Greek-language writings across different historical periods, from the Byzantine era to the beginning of modernity?
This lecture examines how perceptions of the Prophet of Islam evolved through a variety of Greek texts, including historical chronicles, religious polemics, translations, and hagiographical writings. It explores the transition from early interpretations shaped by heresiological perspectives to more diverse and nuanced portrayals influenced by intellectual engagement, interfaith encounters, and the exchange of written works among Greek-speaking communities.
