Event description and details
Screens have transformed childhood, reshaping how children learn, play, socialize, and understand the world around them. From social media and online gaming to exposure to inappropriate content, harmful online activities, and interactions with strangers, today’s digital landscape presents parents with challenges that previous generations could scarcely have imagined.
Join Al-Mujadilah Center for Women for Parenting in the Age of Screens, a free lecture led by Hina Khan-Mukhtar. Drawing on research, studies, and current statistics, this session will explore the realities of raising children in an increasingly digital world, including concerns about children’s attention spans, academic performance, outdoor play, and the quality of parent-child interactions.
Rather than focusing on fear or guilt, the session aims to help parents discover practical, research-informed strategies for navigating the digital landscape with greater wisdom, confidence, and intentionality.
Participants will explore how to:
Establish healthy screen-time boundaries and digital habits.
Protect children from online risks and harmful content.
Support children’s ability to focus and engage in meaningful relationships.
Encourage outdoor play and real-world experiences.
Create homes where face-to-face connection and family interaction take priority over virtual distractions.
Approach digital parenting with awareness, balance, and thoughtful guidance.
Grounded in an Islamic perspective, this lecture encourages informed, engaged, and compassionate parenting, recognizing that while the challenges of the digital age are real, families can take meaningful steps to help children thrive.
