Event description and details
Doha: A City in the Making
Doha’s skyline reflects a story of rapid transformation, but behind its contemporary landmarks lies a much longer history of adaptation, experimentation, and exchange. This talk explores the evolution of Doha’s architecture, from the pre-oil city and modernist buildings of the 1950s–1970s to today’s museums, cultural districts, and ambitious urban developments.
The discussion will examine how Doha has balanced local identity with global ambition, and consider what should be preserved, reimagined, or developed as the city continues to evolve. It will also explore how Doha’s architectural identity has been shaped by both external influences and its own cultural traditions.
Speakers:
Ibrahim Al Jaidah — Group CEO and Chief Architect, Arab Engineering Bureau
Dr. Sultana Al-Nabet — Assistant Professor of Urban Planning, Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Qatar University
Moderator:
Professor Christoph Lindner — President and Vice-Chancellor, Royal College of Art
